THE RISE OF IT'S ALIVE

2019
Handmade Beginnings

As It’s Alive continued to grow, so did its identity. The brand's logo, designed by Denia DuBoulay, helped bring the vision of It’s Alive to life and remains a recognizable symbol of the business today. From family property in Cas En Bas, Danni and Dario baked sourdough, bottled kombucha by hand, and reinvested every dollar back into equipment and growth. What began as a small-scale operation was steadily becoming something much bigger.

2021
Building Momentum

The team slowly began to grow as the customer base expanded rapidly. Most opening days sold out, and It’s Alive became a regular part of many people’s routines across the island.
During this season of growth, Danni and Dario also got married and started searching for a permanent retail space to support the future of the business.

2023
Expanding Across the Island

The business continued to evolve with the launch of the It’s Alive website, the introduction of kombucha minis, and expansion into cafés and stores around Saint Lucia.
Danni and Dario welcomed their daughter Rosalia in March while continuing to grow the business and community around it. That same year, It’s Alive participated in the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival for the first time.

2025
Still Growing

With increased production capacity, expanded wholesale partnerships, larger community events like Chill & Thrive, and long-term systems now in place, Danni and Dario continued growing It’s Alive while also expanding their family with the arrival of their daughter, Melina. As both the business and family flourished, they remained committed to the values that shaped the brand from the beginning: craftsmanship, living cultures, community, and a belief that good things grow slowly.

2018
The Beginning

After spending 18 months travelling through Brazil, Portugal, and Spain studying organic farming and food systems, Danni and Dario returned to Saint Lucia inspired to build something rooted in slow food, sustainability, and community. What began as home experiments with sourdough and fermentation slowly evolved into the foundation of It’s Alive. During this time, they also took over the Sourdough St. Lucia Instagram account and its small but growing customer base.

2020
Growing Through Uncertainty

As the world slowed down during COVID, demand for fresh bread and fermented foods unexpectedly surged. Danni and Dario officially registered It’s Alive, purchased their first oven, and began running regular popup days. Before installation was completed, they spent months transporting dough across the island just to keep production moving.

2022
A First Real Home

It’s Alive opened its first dedicated retail location at The Dream container complex while production continued from Cas En Bas. What began as occasional popup days evolved into a six-day-a-week operation. As the workload intensified, the team expanded further to support the growing bakery and fermentory.

2024
Scaling the Vision

It’s Alive entered a major period of expansion with island-wide kombucha distribution, a larger combined retail and production operation at Johnsons Centre, and a second kombucha production facility. What started as homemade sourdough and hand-bottled ferments had now grown into one of Saint Lucia’s leading fermentation-focused brands.

What began as a passion for organic farming, fermentation, and thoughtfully crafted food has grown into one of Saint Lucia’s most beloved bakeries and fermentories. Built by Danni and Dario Piazza, It’s Alive is the story of a family, a community, and a business that has grown one loaf, one bottle, and one step at a time.

2026

Spreading the Culture

As demand for It's Alive products continued to grow, Danni and Dario continue to focus on making their offerings more accessible across Saint Lucia. A partnership with distributor Admac expanded the reach of their kombucha and fermented products, while joining the Ontrai delivery platform made it easier than ever for customers to enjoy their favourite breads, baked goods, and beverages from home. As the business reaches new communities, It’s Alive remains committed to the same handcrafted quality, living cultures, and personal touch that started it all.
